Njala University, Bo Campus, Towama Location, 26th March 2026— The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, has announced the formation of key management committees to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across the campus. He made the disclosure this afternoon during a strategic meeting with staff, noting that the initiative is intended to promote inclusiveness and efficiency in campus administration.
Professor Rashid Ansumana stated that the proposed committees will focus on critical areas such as student services, health, security, hostel management, campus beautification, digital transformation, social affairs, and research and innovation. He emphasized that effective committee structures are essential for universities to function properly and respond to emerging challenges.
On healthcare, he revealed that funds have been provided to the campus clinic to procure essential medicines, ensuring that both staff and students can access medical services with ease. He clarified that consultations at the clinic are free, while a modest fee is required for medications, and stressed the need for proper management to avoid wastage of drugs.
Turning to campus safety, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor highlighted the need for a Campus Security Committee to enhance security systems. He said the committee would make recommendations on measures such as installation of CCTV cameras, improved lighting in vulnerable areas, and the enforcement of uniforms for security personnel to ensure visibility and accountability.
The Progressive Deputy Vice-Chancellor also underscored the importance of improving student welfare through the establishment of a Hostel Management Committee. According to him, the committee will work closely with existing structures to maintain cleanliness and ensure that hostel facilities, especially sanitation, are kept in good condition.
Providing updates on recent progress, the forward-looking Professor referenced the successful sod-turning ceremony for the medical school building held on March 24, 2026. He further outlined developments including the installation of Starlink internet services, provision of sound equipment for the Great Hall, and the introduction of television screens to support meetings and virtual engagements.
Professor Ansumana disclosed plans to upgrade the Career Advisory and Placement Services Centre into a modern conference facility to host major administrative meetings, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure on campus.
Deans and Heads of Department presented updates from their various units, including the establishment of a new academic journal by the School of Basic Education and initiatives by the Institute of Languages and Cultural Studies to improve academic delivery and preserve traditional music.
