Njala University, Bo Campus, Towama Location, 29th April 2026– The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, has said the visit of His Royal Majesty, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, will strengthen cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria while promoting partnership between knowledge and tradition.
Professor Ansumana made the statement yesterday during the official welcome ceremony held at Njala University, where he described the royal guest as a distinguished scholar, legal authority, and traditional ruler whose presence added honour to the institution.
He praised the Asagba as a monarch whose achievements were earned through discipline, scholarship, and service, noting that the Nigerian king had excelled in law and academia before ascending the throne.
According to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the visit represented more than a ceremonial occasion, as it brought together two important pillars of society—education and traditional leadership.
"Today, Njala University receives not only a King, but a meeting point where knowledge and tradition recognise each other and stand as partners," Professor Ansumana stated.
He said the life of the Asagba reflected excellence in legal practice, scholarship, and cultural leadership, adding that it demonstrated how wisdom and authority can work together for the good of society.
Professor Ansumana also used the occasion to highlight the development strides being made by Njala University. He said the institution was strengthening its College of Medical Sciences, expanding its Department of Law, and investing in research and innovation.
He stressed that universities must help shape national progress by producing solutions, building justice systems, and telling Africa's own stories through scholarship and discovery.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor further called for stronger collaboration between Njala University and the Asaba Kingdom, saying both institutions exist to serve their people and preserve valuable heritage.
"We receive you not only as a guest, but as a partner in raising minds, preserving what must not be lost, and building bridges between Sierra Leone and Nigeria," he said.
Speaking directly to students, Professor Ansumana encouraged them to value preparation, discipline, and personal growth over the desire for quick fame.
"The world does not remember those who arrive quickly. It remembers those who arrive prepared," he advised.
He concluded by saying the royal visit would leave a lasting impact on the university community and further strengthen the bond between leadership, learning, and regional cooperation.
