Njala University, Bo Campus, Towama Location, 15th May 2026 – The Directorate of Quality Assurance at Njala University is today concluding a two-day workshop on Institutional Quality Assurance Capacity for Effective Higher Education Delivery at the CAPS Centre, Bo Campus.
The workshop brought together participants from various schools and administrative units across the University's two campuses.
The sessions focused on higher education governance, national development priorities, institutional accountability, policy alignment, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, monitoring and evaluation, as well as continuous quality improvement mechanisms. The training also sought to deepen participants' understanding of institutional audit systems and quality assurance expectations within the higher education sector.
Delivering remarks at the Bo Campus session, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, conveyed the warm regards and appreciation of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, to the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education for what he described as a timely and strategic engagement.
Professor Ansumana stated that in today's increasingly competitive and knowledge-driven world, the credibility of universities depends not only on access to education, but also on the quality, integrity, accountability, and relevance of the systems through which education is delivered.

Quality assurance should be viewed as the intellectual and ethical foundation upon which academic excellence is built — not merely a routine regulatory requirement.

He further noted that effective quality assurance systems promote transparency, evidence-based decision-making, continuous improvement, and academic integrity.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed Njala University's commitment to strengthening academic quality, institutional accountability, digital transformation, research excellence, and continuous improvement in line with both national and international standards. He encouraged participants to actively engage throughout the workshop to support the University's vision of building a resilient and globally competitive institution.
Also addressing the gathering, the Chief Technical and Education Officer of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Josephus Brimah, commended Njala University for organizing the workshop, describing it as a laudable and strategic initiative aimed at enhancing quality service delivery in higher education. He praised the leadership of the University and the Ministry's Directorate of Higher Education for promoting initiatives that strengthen academic standards and institutional effectiveness.
Reflecting on his experience as a former lecturer at Njala University, Dr. Brimah expressed confidence in the quality of graduates produced by the institution, noting that many former students continue to excel in professional and public service sectors across the country.
Dr. Brimah further encouraged lecturers and administrators to adopt practical and student-friendly teaching approaches that improve comprehension and learning outcomes, emphasizing that strong pedagogy and uncompromised academic standards remain essential to producing competent graduates and sustaining the credibility of higher education institutions.
Speaking on the purpose and objectives of the workshop, the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Joseph Bavai, highlighted the University's commitment to institutionalizing systems that support continuous improvement in teaching, learning, research, and community service delivery. He explained that the training was designed to ensure that stakeholders across the University are adequately informed and actively engaged in quality assurance processes.
According to him, the workshop forms part of a broader policy objective aimed at equipping key personnel with the knowledge and skills required to effectively implement institutional quality assurance frameworks consistent with national and international best practices.
