U.S. Ambassador Bryan D. Hunt Visits Njala University to Discuss Higher Education Collaboration

Njala, Sierra Leone – United States Ambassador Bryan D. Hunt visited Njala University’s Bo Campus on October 29, 2024, to explore partnership opportunities in higher education.
Ambassador Hunt emphasized the importance of collaboration, specifically to advance Njala’s veterinary medicine program and broader educational goals. "We are committed to strengthening our partnership to support higher education in Sierra Leone," he stated.
Highlighting a longstanding relationship with the U.S. Embassy, Ambassador Hunt noted that Njala University has benefited from numerous Fulbright scholarships. He also praised Dr. Joshua Liu McDermott, a Fulbright Scholar at Njala, for his impactful contributions.
Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal outlined plans for new campuses, a medical school, and a veterinary school aimed at addressing health and education needs in Sierra Leone.
Ambassador Hunt reaffirmed U.S. support, encouraging Njala to explore USAID grants and partnerships with American universities. Both parties expressed optimism for a fruitful collaboration to enhance educational opportunities in Sierra Leone.
