Njala University, 17th November, 2024- The Department of Nursing at Njala University has reintroduced conference marking to promote academic excellence and transparency in evaluating students. The initiative was applied during the marking of introductory nursing exams, where lecturers collaboratively reviewed and graded papers, with scores projected for all to observe.

Dr. Angella Magdalene George, Head of the Department, emphasized that the introductory exam serves as a screening process for applicants before issuing offer letters. She noted that this requirement aligns with standards set by the Sierra Leone Nurses Board, ensuring only qualified candidates advance in the program.

"Examinations are not just a measure of knowledge; they are a critical step in ensuring that our students are ready to meet the professional and ethical standards required in the nursing field," Dr. George stated. She highlighted the significance of conference marking in fostering fairness, consistency, and collective accountability among staff.

She explained that the exams are designed to assess both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for the complexities of clinical practice. Dr. George added that this approach instills confidence in students while equipping them with essential competencies for healthcare delivery.
