GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Professor/Associate Professor

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD degree or its equivalent with specialization in the discipline applied
  • Evidence of academic leadership in terms of publications, project design execution and monitoring, administrative leadership etc.
  • Demonstrable track record of teaching and supervision in the areas identified above.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, communication and inclusive leadership skills

Duties:

The successful applicant shall be expected to:

  • Have leadership roles in the School, research and scholarship
  • Teach courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Carry out research and publication in the departmental and interdepartmental levels.
  • Supervise the undergraduate scientific research projects.

Senior Lecturer

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Ph. D. in with specialization in the discipline applied

  • Proven track record and experience in supervising post-graduate research students.
  • Proven track record and experience in management and leadership at academic institutions of higher learning.

Duties:

Lecturer 1

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or its equivalent in the discipline applied.
  • University teaching experience of discipline applied at the Undergraduate level.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
  • Proven track record of research and publishing with reputable publishers in disciplines applied
  • Proven track record and experience in supervising undergraduate research projects will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant shall be expected to:

  • Teach the development module in the discipline applied
  • Develop extra intervention to assist extended programme students perform better.
  • Coordinate the academic facilitator for development of modules in the discipline applied
  • Assist with assessment
  • Monitor the academic needs of this cohort of students in collaboration with the module coordinators.
  • Provide general administrative assistance.

Lecturer 2

MPhil degree or its equivalent in the discipline applied.

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

  1. Vacancy – PROCUREMENT OFFICER

Position:                      Procurement Officer

Reporting to:               The Vice Chancellor and Principal, NU

Place of work              University Secretariat, Njala University, Moyamba district

Role:

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor and Principal, the Procurement Officer will be responsible for detailed execution of various procurement tasks generated from strategies and policies approved by the University Court

Qualifications:

A good degree in the following disciplines from a recognized University: Procurement, Business Administration or Social Sciences. A Postgraduate Qualification in Procurement Management from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

Competencies:

  • High level of integrity, independence of mind and honesty
  • Evidence of good communication skills
  • Familiar with the use of computer packages such as Microsoft Office Professional
  • Microsoft Project and other productivity improvement packages will be an advantage

  1. Vacancy – PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

Position:                      Public Relations Officer

Reporting to:               The Registrar

Place of work              University Secretariat, Njala University

Role:

Reporting to the Registrar, the Public Relations Officer will be responsible for marketing the University especially to stakeholders, and conduct internal and external communications. He or She will also be responsible for communicating a positive and consistent image of the University to the general public/ undertake Publication of adverts and press releases.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with appropriate Campus officers to establish  a public relations programme detailing the goals/objectives in support of the mission of the institution, including procedures for periodic evaluations
  • Work with Administrators, Deans and Directors on appropriate Public Relations programmes, providing counsel/expertise towards their development/implementation
  • Develop and coordinate publicity and other communications support related to University events/programmes and assist other groups sponsoring such programmes  in publicizing their events
  • Serve as official representative/spokesperson for the institution as and when instructed in disseminating information about programmes, plans, events and activities to the news media and responding to media queries about the same

Reporting to: Assistant Estate Officer

Qualifications: A good First Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Logistics Management and related discipline from a recognized Institution

Responsibilities: The Transport Officer will be responsible for managing the execution, direction and coordination of all transport matters within the University. This entails, managing budgets, organizing schedules and routs, ensuring that the vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements and making sure that the drivers are aware transportation policies

  • Distribution, maintenance, repair and utilization of all the vehicle fleet of the University

  1. VACANCY: INTERNAL AUDITOR (1)

Reporting to:                           Vice Chancellor and Principal, NU

Place of work:                         University Secretariat, Njala Campus, Moyamba District

The Internal Audit department acts as an independent advisor, assisting the University Administration to improve the University's operations by applying a systematic, disciplined approach to the evaluation of risk management and control processes. The Internal Auditor performs and/or organizes activities to support the daily operations of the unit by carrying out internal audit mandates and other activities in accordance with established methodologies and unit guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in internal audit projects (i.e. planning, execution and reporting).
  • Ensures compliance with established internal control procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices, and documentation.
  • Appraises adequacy of internal control systems by performing risk-based testing procedures.
  • Makes recommendations concerning improvement of processes and remediation of identified internal control deficiencies.
  • Contributes to the preparation of the draft and final internal audit report that is distributed to the Senior Administration and the Audit Committee.
  • Effectively uses Internal Audit working paper and data analytics tools.

 Qualifications:

ACCA qualification plus a postgraduate qualification in Audit from a recognized University (body); Associate Membership of the Internal Association of Book-keepers with Ten years practical Accounting and Auditing experience and Membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians

In a supportive capacity will perform the following:

  1. VACANCY: SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER

Reporting to - The Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Place of work: Njala University, Njala Campus

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clinical and Administrative head of the University Hospital
  • Contributing clinical expertise to patient care and providing guidance to junior physicians.
  • Shall report to the University’s Health Board, the Campus and Hospital Health Management Committee, and the Hospital general meeting
  • Chairs hospital management committee and the hospital general meetings
  • Performing administrative duties and risk management.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Doctor of medicine degree(MD) and valid license to practice the profession
  • Proven experience as a physician
  • In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices
  • Excellent understanding of examination methodologies and diagnosis
  • Adequate knowledge of infectious diseases, their symptoms and epidemiology

Responsibilities:

  • Provide the highest level of patient care possible

  • Perform procedure such as administering medications, wound dressing, taking measurements, cannulation, calibrating equipment, assisting registered nurses and helping patients with hygiene, feeding and other activities

  1. VACANCY: COMMUNITY HEALTH OFFICER (2)

Reporting to – Senior Medical Officer

Place of work: Njala University Hospital, Njala Campus

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responding to medical/health problems presented by patients, including proper history taking, investigations, diagnosis, treatment, admissions and referral as appropriate.
  • Liaise with DHMT
  • Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Promoting continuous medical education amongst other junior clinical staff.
  • Provide mentorship to other junior staff.
  • Provide 24 hours hospital coverage on specific days a month as assigned.
  • Work specific shifts, including night shifts, as assigned on the duty roster.
  • Admitting patients requiring special care followed by investigations and treatment.
  • Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. Specific surgical procedures and specialist investigations as and when with the help of the nursing staff.
  • Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment is giving to the patients, and also promotes health education.
  • Ensures that all emergency cases are prioritized and seen appropriately regardless of the time of the day.
  • Be willing to work long and unpredictable hours dictated by the needs of the patients.
  • Perform other duties related to the role, department or project as may be required by the Clinician in-charge.

Qualification:

At least a Higher Diploma in Community Health Medicine from a recognized University with five years’ working experience in a hospital setting

Reporting to – Senior Medical Officer

Place of work: Njala University Hospital, Njala Campus

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide essential care to pregnant women, newborns, and their families during the antenatal, labour and postnatal stages.
  • Requires strong communication, teamwork, and emotional management skills to be successful.
  • Providing care and support to women during their pregnancy, labour, and postnatal period
  • Ensuring the well-being of both mother and baby
  • Working closely with other healthcare professionals such as neonatal nurses, health visitors, and doctors to provide comprehensive care tailored to each woman’s individual needs.
