🔎 About the Institute

The Institute of Geography and Development Studies (IGDS) is home to two undergraduate programmes that explore the relationship between people, places, and development. We believe that understanding how societies grow, struggle, and adapt is at the heart of building a better Sierra Leone.

Our students study a broad range of topics — from development economics and community mobilisation to geographic information systems and rural poverty — gaining both the academic knowledge and the practical tools they need to work effectively in the field. Whether you are passionate about helping rural communities thrive or interested in shaping national development policy, IGDS gives you the foundation to make it happen.

Our graduates go on to make a real difference — working in government ministries, international organisations, research institutions, and the private sector, both in Sierra Leone and across the globe.
