The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management is one of the five departments in the School of Natural Resources Management Njala University. The Department founded in 2007 is committed to excellent training of Aquaculture Scientists at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The vision of the Department is to become an international centre of excellence for learning and research in the fields of aquaculture and fisheries resources management geared towards meeting societal needs. The Department is committed to excellent training of Aquaculture and Fisheries Scientists at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our mandates are to train highly skilled manpower needed for repositioning national aquaculture development, skilled and highly proficient fisheries scientists who can tackle the millennial food shortage challenges and also compete favourably in the field with peers all over the world. Our focus is on research findings dissemination, poverty alleviation through grassroots empowerment and food security on sustainable basis. This is made possible through the concerted efforts of our dynamic, indefatigable and experienced lecturers who have specialization in different areas backed up by a rich crop of technical and administrative staff who also work diligently to maintain the high academic standards and discipline of the University. ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Postgraduate
A good first degree (not lower than second class) and a good master degree from any recognized institutions of higher learning are required for the MSc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes respectively.
Undergraduate and Non-degree
B.Sc. [Hons] (Duration 4 years)
Students are to be invited into the honors programme based on academic performance in the first and second year of study. Students with cumulative grade points of 3.60 and above in the second year of study will be invited to the honors programme in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management from the general Degree of Natural Resources Management.
Diploma and Certificate Programmes
Higher Diploma: 4 credits at GCE ‘O’ Level/WASSCE including English language and one credit related to the programme of study in not more than two sittings is required for the three years higher diploma programme.
Ordinary Diploma: 3 credits at GCE ‘O’ Level/ WASSCE including one credit related to the programme of study in not more than two sittings is required for the two years ordinary diploma programme.
Certificate: 2 credits at ‘O’ level/WASSCE including one credit related to the programme of study in not more than two sittings is required for the two years certificate course.
