Njala University Showcases Agriculture and Innovative Prowess at the 2024 Education Week Trade Fair

Njala University, 24th January, 2024- Njala University's Schools of Education, Basic Education, Agriculture, Technology, and Basic Sciences have on Monday, 22nd January 2024, represented the University at the ongoing 2024 Sierra Leone Annual Celebration of Education. The event is being held at the Bo Government Secondary School in Bo City, under the theme 'Learning for Lasting Peace.'

The weeklong celebration, spanning from Monday, January 22, 2024, to Friday, January 26, 2024, will encompass various activities. These include the commemoration of the International Day of Education on January 24, 2024, along with presentations, panel discussions, an educational trade fair, awards ceremony, sports, and collaborative sessions. The aim is to foster education in Sierra Leone through these diverse and engaging events.  

For the trade fair and sports, Njala University has established a booth, displaying some of the innovative skills of the University. Our renowned football team is actively engaged in the inter-stakeholder football competition.

The University is presenting, among other items, beautifully crafted gara clothes, country clothes, and carpets, along with locally made hats, shoes, and bags. Ceramic cups, plates, various rice and potato varieties, farm implements, and cultural musical instruments, all created by the respective Schools, are prominently displayed at the University booth.

As a part of the Vice-Chancellor Principal's Business Enterprise initiative, the University Graduation regalia is on display. The simplified solar crop dryer, enhanced rice batch parboiler, hybrid-powered seed germinator/incubator, oil palm processing machine, and 3D printer workstation are just a few of the items on display from the School of Agriculture.

Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, expressed her admiration for the innovative and entrepreneurial skills showcased by Njala University during her visit to the University booth yesterday. She commended the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, for integrating innovation and entrepreneurship into tertiary education. She praised his commitment to placing women at the center of his Administration.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, expressed his gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Technical and Higher Education for her commendations during her visit. He extended his appreciation for her recognition of the innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives undertaken by his Administration.

Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma took the opportunity to request the continued support of the Honourable Minister in all aspects of the University's operations. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the institution's mission and objectives. Professor Koroma assured the Minister of the University's unwavering commitment to transforming Njala University into a prominent center of learning, where academic excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurship thrive.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Njala Campus, Professor Alieu Mohamed Bah, is actively overseeing the participation of schools under his campus to ensure the comprehensive showcasing of the campus's readiness for agricultural, technological innovation, and practical education.   

The University is proudly represented by a distinguished delegation from Bo and Njala Campuses comprising Dr. Phillip Foday Yamba Thulla, the Dean of the School of Basic Education; Dr. John Paul Kaisam, the Dean of the School of Basic Sciences; Mr. Ibrahim Foday, the Head of the Biology Department; and Mrs. Memuna Sawi, Director Institute of Food Technology, Nutrition and Consumer Studies. Their participation underscores the University's commitment to active engagement in events promoting education and fostering collaboration within the academic community.
