The New Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, Professor Osman Sankoh has on Thursday 14th, May 2020 paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, PC Thomas Borbor Gbappie 1V at his Taiama residence.
The Registrar Njala University, Dr Muneer Jalloh introduced the delegation from Njala University, while the Chiefdom Treasury Clerk Daniel Tommy Charlie introduced members of the Paramount Chief’s Council.
Dr. Muneer Jalloh noted that, they were at Tiama, the Chiefdom headquarter town of Kori Chiefdom to introduce the new Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Osman Sankoh and the Deputy Vice Chancellors of Njala and Bo campuses, Professor Bashiru Koroma and Professor Mohamed Syed Fofanah respectively.
He further noted that it is a tradition for the University to introduce the new Vice Chancellor, Principals and other administrators to the Paramount Chief and his council when they are appointed.
Responding, Paramount Chief Gbappie thanked and welcomed the new Vice Chancellor and Principal to his chiefdom on behalf of his people.
He urged the new administration to ensure that Njala University is peaceful and contribute positively to the education sector and nation building.
The Paramount Chief expressed his disappointment over the continuous instability at the University over the years as it is very appalling to them as chiefdom stakeholders and has equally impacted on the development of the University.
Paramount Chief Gbappie assured the University authorities of their unflinching support to the progress and development of the University at all times.
The Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Sankoh thanked the Paramount Chief for the hospitality accorded them and gave a brief historical background of himself disclosing that he is a son of the soil.
He disclosed that it was a blessing for him at this point in time to have inherited an administration full of his brothers and contemporaries.
‘’This is the most ideal time to resurrect Njala University," he recounted.
Members of the Chiefdom Council also made meaningful contributions encouraging the University to continue seeking their interest as Njala University is all they have compared to other chiefdoms that have minerals and other economic endowments.
They appealed for support towards the fight against COVID-19, empowerment of their youths to undertake meaningful agricultural activities.
The University authorities promised to look into the concerns of the authorities and assured them of their commitment at all times to meet their Corporate Social Responsibilities to the Chiefdom.
Professor Osman Sankoh an alumnus of Njala University was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal on the 31st March, 2020 replacing Professor Abdullah Mansaray. His visit to the Paramount Chief of the host chiefdom was to fulfill a long standing tradition between the University and the host Community.
